Renewable Thermal Energy Options

Allowed WML to Compare the Status Quo of Gas With Other Thermal Energy Options

Problem

DETA carried out a review of renewable thermal energy options available to Whakatane Mill, for when they require additional steam production capacity in future, and how they compare to the status quo of using natural gas.

Solution

The review considered the practical and economic implications of numerous energy sources including hog fuel from forest residues, wood pellets, mixed wood fuel, geothermal and electricity, alongside natural gas.

Outcome

Insights gained from the review are now being used by Whakatane Mill as they develop their strategy for steam production into the future.
