Protein Recovery from Stickwater

Review Found Vibratory Shear Had a Much Better Payback

Problem

Taranaki bio extracts was dealing with stickwater by disposing of this to the land surrounding the plant. In order to manage disposal costs, maximise revenue and provide a sustainable outcome for the community, a new system had to be installed to clean and process stick water.

Solution

DETA consulting was contracted to conduct a peer review on the possible technologies that could be used to more effectively deal with stick water from the rendering process.

Outcome

Our review found that the new VSEP had a much better payback than other alternatives, and although energy and water savings were substantial, most of the improved benefits could be found through yield improvement.
