Energy Steering Group

Insulation and Lighting Change Strategies Developed

Problem

Refining NZ is the only oil refinery in New Zealand. It supplies around 40% of the energy needs of New Zealand and 70% of the transport fuel needs. The process is very energy intensive, therefore, they face large amounts of societal pressure to reduce energy use.

Solution

DETA sat on Refining NZ's Energy Steering Group, providing input into the site's energy and cost reduction plans.

Outcome

As part of being on the Energy Steering Group, DETA developed insulation policies and strategies, no small undertaking for a site of the scale of Refining NZ. DETA also assisted in the implementation of a lighting change strategy across the site's more than 8,000 hazardous fittings.
