Water Treatment Plant Energy Reduction

671 MWh Worth of Energy Savings With a Payback Period of Less Than 5 Years

Problem

HCC water treatment plant provides potable water for the Hamilton city reticulation network. The plant runs 24/7 365 days a year, potentially providing many opportunities to improve energy efficiency.

Solution

DETA prepared an energy audit that accounted for the energy usage on site and provided several energy management opportunities to reduce the energy usage.

Outcome

The Energy Audit identified 670.6 MWh worth of energy savings with a payback period of less than 5 years. Implementation of these projects would reduce energy costs by $95,300 per annum. In terms of reduced carbon emissions, this would equate to 86.5 tonnes per year.
