McCain Foods Energy Management Programme

McCain Foods

Energy Management Programme

4.9 GWh and 1,800 Tonnes of Carbon Savings

Problem

McCain Foods is the world’s largest manufacturer of frozen potato products, and the manufacture of these products is highly energy intensive.

Solution

DETA worked with McCain Foods for three years, delivering an energy management programme and a range of cost reduction projects. Our work included:

  • Energy audits to both New Zealand sites (Timaru and Hastings)
  • Monthly meetings and energy steering group facilitation to maintain a strong focus son cost reduction
  • Developing projects for implementation
  • Applying DETA’s Lean Energy to the blast tunnel at the site, providing production benefits while reducing operational costs

Outcome

Numerous energy savings were identified, and multiple projects were developed for implementation.
